A cutback is the act of reversing momentum directly along your cutting line, either to create separation from your defender or to reset and attempt a different cut.
Note: Never do this with your defender behind you — it will cause collisions and likely result in a foul call against you.

A cutback is the second phase of a cut. If your initial cut hasn't created a clear throwing window — because the defender has matched your angle or the disc isn't available — the cutback lets you change direction and start again without losing your position on the field.
It's a reset of the cut, not a reset of the possession. Use it to keep the offence moving rather than standing and waiting.
