A split cut attacks directly at a defender, forcing them to commit to an angle to defend. Once the defender commits, the cutter attacks the side they are not covering.

The split cut is the primary way our cutters create clear throwing windows. By threatening the defender directly rather than cutting around them, the cutter forces a decision — whichever side the defender shades, the other side opens up.
The cut is only effective if the attack on the defender is genuine. A half-hearted approach gives the defender time to read the move and stay balanced. Commit fully, then exploit the reaction.
