Definition
The power position channel is the area of the pitch directly in front of a player who has just caught the disc while moving upfield. Because their defender is trailing and cannot yet apply a force, there is a brief window where they can throw in the direction of their momentum without restriction.
Once the defender catches up and establishes a force, the power position channel has expired.
In Context
Recognising and attacking the power position channel is a key part of our disc movement under pressure. When a cutter catches in stride moving upfield, the thrower should look immediately — that player has a live power position and should be looking to play the disc forward before the defence resets.
Hesitating during the power position window lets the defence recover and reduces an advantage into a standard possession.
